Earth Day: How We Do Sustainable Style

Earth Day is an event celebrated around the world on April 22nd, annually. Its purpose is to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

And while we certainly celebrate this day alongside you, Lacson Ravello is committed to making an impact every day through sustainable fashion. We are always improving the sustainability of our designs and thought we could use the celebration of Earth Day as an opportunity to update you on exactly what that looks like!

While we already use sustainable fabrics, we can do more in making a conscious effort. We are committed to using natural, earth-friendly, and sustainable textiles and trims. With every new design, we’ll be making a concerted effort towards sustainability. Our small capsule collections are crafted from a selection of globally sourced fabrics — soft textiles and rich textures made from natural fibers, sustainable materials, or deadstock (factory leftovers that would be wasted).

We’ve also switched from using plastic and shell buttons to Corozo buttons. What does that mean? Well, these buttons are made from Tagua nuts which means they’re a 100% natural and renewable product. And the fact that they’re known as “vegetable ivory” is a wonderful thing! Here are more reasons to love these buttons:

corozo buttons

Natural Harvesting - Corozo seeds can be collected only after they fall naturally from the tree.

Renewable Resource - The production of these buttons does not require the cutting down of trees. That means there is absolutely no need for deforestation.

Durable Material - Corozo have excellent durability and a resistance to scratches.

Natural Material - Unlike plastic buttons, Corozo buttons will eventually biodegrade, thus helping to reduce the amount of plastic waste in the oceans and landfills.

terracycle

As with any other apparel brand, our designs result in fabric scraps. In an effort to reduce our environmental impact, we’ve invested in Terracycle. This recycling company specializes in difficult-to-recycle items and they work with cities, individuals, manufacturers, and brands to reuse, upcycle, recycle, or compost items that would otherwise end up in a landfill. The program is as simple as purchasing one of their boxes, fill it up with scraps, then ship it back to them.

If you’re hoping to have more of a positive environmental impact in your house and/or office, you can also purchase Zero-Waste Boxes to recycle items that are difficult to discard responsibly.

ecoenclose

Last, but certainly not least, we use recycled and compostable materials for packaging and shipping our products. Here’s a synopsis:

  1. Recycled Bags - We use Eco-enclose’s clear recycled bags for packaging our garments for shipping, made from 100% recycled plastic.
  2. Recycled Paper Mailers - We EcoEnclose's 100% recycled and biodegradable mailers for shipping
  3. Thank You Cards - We use Greenerprinter for printed collateral, using 100% recycled, 100% post-consumer waste, certified FSC cardstock, and soy and vegetable-based inks. They’re a local printer which is also great!
